Originating from the innovative technology of Tsinghua University, Protoga® Biotech has created an entirely new microalgal fermentation industry. A diverse range of new products are making significant contributions to life and health, fulfilling our life values and dreams.

Gamal® AST Fermented Astaxanthin, as the latest scientific achievement in feed astaxanthin, is adding value and enhancing efficiency to your aquaculture business with its unique advantages.

The Gamal® AST Astaxanthin, developed with dedication by the Protoga® Biotech team, is specifically designed for the animal nutrition market. Gamal® AST Astaxanthin offers a unique opportunity to meet emerging market demands and enhance the market competitiveness of your products.

The Advantages of Gamal® AST Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a ketocarotenoid widely found in algae, shrimp, crabs, and other organisms. It has three optical isomers, among which the 3S, 3′S isomer possesses the strongest antioxidant capacity and the highest application value.Due to its potent antioxidant properties, astaxanthin has anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, immune-enhancing, vision-protecting, and central nervous system health-maintaining effects. It is widely used as a feed additive in aquaculture and animal husbandry.

Gamal® AST Astaxanthin offers advantages such as low cost, strong antioxidant activity, high yield, more stable and consistent supply, and is unaffected by environmental and climatic conditions.

Traditional levorotatory astaxanthin production processes, regardless of whether the initial cultivation stage uses closed fermentation tanks, require light stimulation for astaxanthin accumulation in the later stages. The limited penetration of light makes it difficult to achieve high-density cell cultivation in this process. The production is highly affected by climate and light conditions, and a large land area is needed to increase output.

Gamal® AST Fermented Astaxanthin, independently developed by Protoga® Biotech, is a novel biosynthetic astaxanthin that addresses the aforementioned shortcomings of levorotatory astaxanthin production. It can efficiently produce levorotatory astaxanthin in a limited space, unaffected by climate and light conditions. This technology is at the international leading level, with biomass and astaxanthin yield reaching tens of times that of Haematococcus pluvialis.

The Transformative Power of Gamal® AST Astaxanthin in the Feed Industry

Astaxanthin, known as the “super antioxidant,” boasts superior bioactivity and bioavailability due to its specific stereoisomeric structure. As a result, it can significantly enhance the quality and health levels of agricultural products.

In the aquaculture feed industry, the addition of astaxanthin not only boosts the immune system of aquatic animals but also increases their growth rate and survival rate. Take salmon as an example: astaxanthin imparts the vibrant orange-red color to salmon, enhancing its visual appeal. The strong antioxidant properties of astaxanthin help maintain the freshness and nutritional value of salmon. Astaxanthin can improve the immunity and survival rate of fish, playing an important role in their normal growth and healthy farming, as well as in reproduction. Astaxanthin has multiple positive effects on the growth and farming processes of aquatic animals such as salmon, shrimp, and crabs.

Taking shrimp feed as an example, approximately two kilograms of astaxanthin are typically added per ton of feed. Based on this, it is estimated that this single product line alone requires about 16,000 tons of astaxanthin annually. However, the actual amount of astaxanthin used in the market today is only one-eighth of the required amount, indicating a significant market gap and potential for growth.

In the traditional astaxanthin sector, the main forms include chemically synthesized products and the dextrorotatory astaxanthin produced by Phaffia rhodozyma. However, these two forms of astaxanthin have very low bioactivity. In contrast, the Gamal® AST Fermented Astaxanthin developed by Yuan Yu Bio has extremely high bioactivity, comparable to that of the levorotatory astaxanthin derived from Haematococcus pluvialis.
